How Leaders Can Tap Into Their Feminine Energy
If you’re at all interested in the personal development space, I’m sure you’ve heard a thing or two about feminine energy. It’s a hot topic that seems to be on everyone’s mind.
But have you ever thought about harnessing your feminine energy as a tool for powerful leadership?
I truly believe that learning how to tap into your feminine energy can be an incredible tool for any leader looking to inspire, motivate and connect with others on a deeper level.
In this guide, I break down what exactly IS feminine energy, why you need it, and some of the must-have leadership characteristics you should be working towards developing that require you to leverage feminine energy.
Before we get into it, a quick disclaimer: as I reference feminine and masculine energy throughout this post, I am NOT talking about gender or how you choose to express your gender identity. We all have feminine and masculine energies within us that can be tapped into. You can think of these energies like Yin and Yang if you will.
Ready to dive into learning about channeling your feminine energy so you can supercharge your leadership capabilities? Let’s get into it!
What is feminine and masculine energy?
When we work from our masculine energy, we’re often very achievement and action-oriented. Too much masculine energy can even be associated with hustle culture and burnout.
It’s all about getting things done, smashing your goals, and often very focused on output.
Masculine energy shows up in leadership as confident and assertive.
When we contrast this with feminine energy, this sort of energy is often much more nurturing, receptive, and spontaneous.
When we work from our feminine energy, we’re not pushing or forcing. We’re often in flow or channeling creative ideas. We allow ourselves to rest, relax, and honor our cycles. Feminine energy allows for ebb and flow.
We can’t always be “on”. We can’t always work at peak efficiency. This is why we must learn to work from a space of feminine energy, too.
Feminine energy often shows up in leadership as nurturing employees, being receptive to ideas for collaboration and improvement, and an understanding of work-life balance.
To be clear, we need BOTH as leaders.
But often, only masculine energy is prioritized in our current society.
If you’ve felt off-balance lately, or are curious about feminine energy and how you can incorporate it into your business to become a better leader, let’s get into some ways leaders can work from a space of feminine energy.
Why do leaders need to tap into their feminine energy?
When I went ahead and Google’d, “top 10 skills every leader needs” I was surprised to do a bit of digging and figure out that many of the required leadership skills are actually heavily anchored in feminine energy.
Let’s get into them right now ⬇️
Skills Every Leader Needs
Here are the TOP skills leaders need that they can access through feminine energy.
Delegation & Communication
While every once and a while, assertive communication is certainly necessary as a leader, tuning into your feminine energy is a great way to develop your delegation and communication skills.
Successful delegation requires:
- Being receptive and open to the opinions of others
- Trying to create a win-win situation for all parties involved
- Being adaptable to change depending on the feedback you receive
These are ALL skills you can hone by tuning into your feminine energy.
Self-Awareness
A great leader needs to be self-aware. A KEY part of this is recognizing the impact you have on others. Nurturing, feminine energy that listens, gets quiet, and reflects will help cultivate this skill.
Gratitude
How often are you showing gratitude for your team? While masculine energy is often associated with the relentless pursuit of a goal (often at any cost), feminine energy takes time to be grateful for what you’ve already accomplished.
Practicing gratitude for those around you from a space of feminine energy will help increase the fruitfulness of your team relationships and make sure everyone feels valued.
Influence
There is a multitude of ways in which leaders can influence. You could definitely do this from a place of masculine OR feminine energy.
By tuning into the needs of others and thinking about how to leverage and incentivize others based on what is truly important to them, you’ll be able to influence from a place of feminine energy. Focus on using your empathy in order to create the impact and influence you desire.
Agility
You’ll often hear about feminine energy being associated with being ‘in flow’. By working from your feminine, you’re flexible and open - and able to pivot at a moment’s notice.
Especially for startups and entrepreneurs, this skill is incredibly important. You’ll want to create from this space rather than sticking rigidly to timelines or approaches - even if they’re not working.
Remember: be stubborn about your goals, but flexible in your methods.
Empathy
As a leader, you have to remember: you’re working with human beings. Masculine energy that hustles for a goal without taking into consideration the whole person will not aid you in your quest to become an empathetic leader.
Recognize that your team members have feelings, they have families, they have hopes, dreams, and fears. The more you can empathize with them and show them that you genuinely care and are tuned in to their needs, the better performance (and increased loyalty) you will receive.
Respect
At the end of the day, respect is all about being receptive to others. It’s about collaboration and seeing your team as equals. It’s recognizing we all have our parts to play and all add our own unique value.
When we operate from feminine energy, we are receptive, collaborative, and inclusive. By leading from this energy, we create a respectful team culture where we ALL feel appreciated.
Again, while this post is focused on feminine energy, both are valuable energies to access as a leader.
You just have to ask yourself, which energy makes the most sense to harness right now?
Are you about to be going over some feedback with a team member? Maybe try to harness your feminine energy so you can soften things, minimize aggression and motivate your team member by showing up as a nurturing leader who is looking out for them.
Are you in the final push of an important project? In this case, you might want to access some of that action-oriented, masculine energy drive to push through and meet your timeline.
There is a place for it all.
