Why I Created Twitter Lists

2020 is the year in which I'm focusing on Exponential Value and Visibility.  A huge part of being able to achieve this is transforming my vision and theme into actionable and achievable goals.  Twitter is not the primary social media platform I use to find clients, but I still want to make sure I have a small presence there because a lot of tech entrepreneurs spend time there.  To increase my visibility, I need to create systems to be consistent. You can follow my journey to experience my vision here.

Recently, in one of the coaching WhatsApp groups I am in, someone asked:

"...how many of us have Twitter accounts? ...Is it an asset or a liability to have one?"

I thought it was an interesting question and responded with

"I think the first step in selecting which social media platform to use depends on how the coach defines success and their intention. Having an account is not the same thing as selling your services through your account. Whether or not you are using an account consistently, I think it's always best practice to make sure you have secured your username and photograph on as many platforms as possible. You never know when someone may want to tag you or mention you. I personally do not use Twitter consistently yet but one of my goals for this year is to create an automated approach. Why? I work mostly with tech-enabled entrepreneurs and they love themselves some Twitter. I would vote Twitter (and any social media platform) is an asset.

And in terms of selling your services through social media, having a large following does not guarantee you will successfully convert a huge number of them into paying clients."

I also wanted to add but didn't send to the group:

"In my opinion, a coach has a lot of work to do on any social media platform - that is why it's important to define what a 'win' means. For example, I do share some of my free resources on Twitter but I'm more interested in coming across as a thought leader. Success for me would be if someone was looking for assistance with/ had a question on productivity or leading their team they would tag or find my tweets."

What are your thoughts?

One way I am able to make sure Twitter doesn't take over my life is by pre-planning my content and using Twitter Lists.  I created these lists to:

  • Save time: I don't have to follow people to have them in my lists. This allows me to keep my Twitter feed uncluttered and not have to search through Twitter for relevant content.
  • Quickly create content:  A retweet with my thoughts is an easy and fast way to share value with my followers.
  • Connect Faster: I can see the content produced by my favorite thought leaders quickly.  I can quickly like their content and engage with them, leveraging their following.
